Noemi’s Father

Robert Travis

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly gripping and engaging read

Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019 For this reader Noemi's Father had just about everything to make for a gripping and engaging book. The book takes one through multiple generations of an Eastern European family and much of the books timeline is leading up to World War II through the aftermath and into the cold war. The author shares the personal and often fascinating experiences of her family as it tries to navigate the precarious events surrounding a country caught, unwillingly, between more powerful bordering countries in a war. There is a sense of voyeurism as the writer shares so many rich and personal details of the ordeals faced and choices made by the members of one family. Although the writing and subject are factual the book is so much more than another history novel and left me always asking that timeless literary question, "What happens next?" I recommend you find out for yourself. You won't put in down till you know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story based on the true recollections of the author during a tremultuous period.

The is the story of a family's multi generation life through out the 1930s, '40s and on into the 1980s. It recounts the heart rendering experiences of the father throughout the Second World War as a Hungarian soldier fighting on the Eastern front followed by a three year imprisonment in a Siberian prison camp. His wife heard that he died in the Siberian slave camp along with thousand of other prisoners and fell into a romantic involvement which resulted in her giving birth to Noemi of the Title….I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who is interested in WWII, romance, and the tough struggle to survive.
